one of my oldest, closest (and most gorgeous) good friends Emma is in London from LA over Christmas so this weekend was all about high quality time together, catching up deal with to deal with (Skype can never compare however assists because she moved Stateside), Christmas buying as well as of program partying in sparkly London town!
Em as well as I satisfied at Goldsmiths’, university of London in 99 as well as instantaneously ended up being firm friends, bonding over our double identities as well as backgrounds (Em is part American, part Swedish, I, a British Greek as well as both ‘survivors’ of our ‘much hated’ strict, all girl, personal education)… More-so, I discovered a genuine spirit sibling in Emma who is the sweetest many humble woman you will ever satisfy as well as we completely linked over our shared appreciation of literature, film, Cosmopolitans as well as adorable men (hehe!). She really made Uni life the most fun imaginable!
…I have so numerous amazing memories of us partying in Piccadilly before returning to her Dad’s location when he was away, in his staggeringly lovely apartment, above, set in historic mansion the Albany in eco-friendly Park (so numerous past as well as present essential people have locations there as you can see below), as well as it’s a fantastic heavenly retreat from the madness of central London…all-luxurious bubble baths, roaring fires as well as four poster beds…it reminded me of house when at Uni, a world away from trainee life as well as dreary new cross accommodation!
True friendship endures over time as well as distance as well as ours has just got stronger over the years.
Meeting up in LA when my short film damaged screened at the LA Harbour worldwide film celebration a few years ago, Em showed my sibling as well as I round Los Angeles from dinner at Chateau Marmont (ooh la la) to booking us in at The Standard, she made sure we experienced a very glam side to the city. I’m so happy of Emma who runs her own successful pr firm Blink innovative Group (a genuine mover as well as shaker in LA) doing excellent things, as well as in fact, thanks to her induction, someday I may just well please my other half as well as agree to moving there!
…So Friday was all about non stop catching up as well as laughter (Em’s LA mindset in London was hysterical (“Are you kidding me, it’s really raining for the 10 days I’m here, people cancel whatever when it rains in LA”), eating (ALL DAY), first of all sashimi in Soho, so authentic, the waitress really talked to us in Japanese the whole time (we just agreed), before dolling up as well as posing ( a lot) for photos pre partying-above as well as below)! before much more stuffing of faces with fantastic unusual burgers at a mixed drink bar off Regent’s street we OF program can’t keep in mind the name of)! Hic!
Em’s fabulous good friend Susannah, a BBC journalist who divides her time between London as well as LA joined us for mixed drinks so I was firmly representing Leeds with those two luscious LA girls!
Then Em as well as I headed with Soho touring numerous a quite fairy lit bar from Floriditas to Hix as well as The Yard!
Oh, what a night!
The complying with morning was all about buying for final Christmas provides (Hamleys, Fortnum & Mason (not Christmas without a visit) as well as hello(!) Uniqlo for the most affordable cashmere jumpers you’ll discover in this country-please open in Leeds)…. as well as of program much more child-free, silly, laugh out loud fun!
Oh, as well as it was fantastic getting time with Em’s darling Mummy ( who treated us to a scrumptious Swedish breakfast at close-by The Nordic Bakery) as well as of program seeing Em’s lovely, very beautiful, witty sibling Anna.
I was so flipping unfortunate to ultimately state goodbye…
Later that day, I satisfied one more excellent friend, Ruth with her lovable child Rosa-Maria (born 4 days after my very first son, Oliver), one of my loveliest Mummy good friends in the world, (not sure I would have coped without her in those early, heady months when the infant arrived) over a late full English brunch, indeed a second breakfast if you like, including Cumberland sausages as well as completely fried sunny eggs before a rainy meander around the Christmas market on the grey however always picturesque Southbank.
The guy blowing significant bubbles was a genuine treat to watch!
Before I understood it, it was time to catch my train home, feeling all warm as well as Christmassy inside. as well as lucky. So lucky to have been able to leave the youngsters with my capable (super handsome-he’s reading this) other half as well as amazing mum who held the forte so I might have some much needed me-time with my friends.
It’s so life-affirming (really) to reconnect with old good friends as the old-slash-new me…and as much as I missed my monkeys, I delighted in getting my identity back somewhat as well as being around good friends who understand me best. You understand valuable time with those uplifting, unconditional friendships you can’t online without, that never modification exactly how far away you are from one one more day to day (or exactly how numerous youngsters you have)!
So rejuvenating, so refreshing, I returned house having had genuine time to switch off, appreciating my bit incredible household even much more than before.
It was the very best Christmas present I might have asked for.
